We knew we were in for a treat before the curtain went up on Cwmbran High School’s production of Disney’s Beauty and Beast.
A staff member stood on stage and explained the hours of effort that pupils and staff had volunteered to put this show on for two nights
He said the cast and crew had given up ‘lunchtimes, break times, Sundays, school holidays and evenings’.
It shows the character of a school when you learn that so many people have given us so much of their time to entertain an audience over two nights. Pupils from year seven to year 13 became one big team to make sure the actors on stage got to pull off a great performance.
Make-up, costumes, sound, lighting, ticket desk, interval drinks, set design and stage hands were just a few of the roles that went through my mind.
I’m sure there were many more people tucked away from the main stage making sure everything went to plan.
It was a blast. The cast all loved their roles. You could see they had ‘become’ their parts by months of preparing for these two nights.
The curtain call
It feels odd to say that the curtain call was my favourite part of the show as at this point the show is over. But it was lovely and left me with a nice warm feeling.
The cast pulled Mrs Pearce, Mr Miller and Mr Osborne onto the stage. This trio were the key staff involved in the production and a few of case thanked them each individually for their support and gave them a gift. .
It’s all on the video so take a look 🙂
The stage was packed with everyone who had played a part in the show.
And now for my second favourite part of the night. When the curtains came down on the show you could hear a big group scream come from back stage. It was a noise that said ‘yes, we did it!’.
And you did. Well done to everyone who was involved in this show.
