TENNIS courts at a community centre are to be repaired and brought back into use after planners gave the go-ahead.
The application for permission to repair and resurface half of the area of the existing tennis courts at Panteg House on Greenhill Road, Sebastopol near Pontypool also sought permission for the removal of the “sports fencing”.
According to the application the tennis courts in the grounds of the former employees’ club were last used in either 2022 or 2023 and they require patching and a new tarmac being laid to give them a “playable” surface.
Heidi Nicholson-Evans explained in her application she has been advised by Torfaen Borough Council’s planning department an application, and planning permission, is still required “even though” the nine-foot high fencing has already been removed due to damage. The intention is to replace it with like-for-like fencing.
Ms Nicholson-Evans said the tennis players had shared their plans online, including through a GoFundMe donations page, which were supported, and she said there is interest “from ladies across the borough”.
Torfaen Borough Council planning officers have granted conditional approval.
