Torfaen Councillors have turned down an application by the owner of the the Indian restaurant opening in the old Fairwater House pub to sell alcohol.

An application was submitted to Torfaen Council to sell alcohol from 11am to 3am on Monday to Sunday and until 5am on New Year’s Eve, Boxing Day and any Bank Holiday Sunday or Monday.

But councillors met last week and turned it down.

A Torfaen Council spokesman said: “The council and the police worked with Mr Islam to assist him with his application prior to the hearing, however, the panel rejected the application as Mr Islam was unsure as to what hours he required to undertake his licensable activities and did not appreciate the relevance of conditions in order to promote the licensing objectives.”

The owner can appeal or submit a new application.
