The artist who drew paintings on the wall of the Moonraker pub over 20 years ago has stumbled across photos of his work. Ashley Lewis , who lives in Llanfrechfa, wants to see if they bring back memories of the old pub.

The Moonraker pub is now The John Fielding.

He said: “I was in Pontypool College at the time – doing engineering! I used to design tattoos for people and when the manager of the Moonraker saw some, he asked me to put some on the walls. I remember one guy having the symmetrical design tattooed on his arm. As for the ideas behind them, as most things I do they just took shape as I was doing them.

“I worked in the pub while in college and the manager asked me to paint some designs on the walls. They were all quite large and took a few days to draw them out then paint them. They were all free-hand but I used a piece of string to get the curves on the symmetrical one.

“I thought these photos had been lost but found them last week and was chuffed to bits. They did attract a bit of attention at the time and I’m curious if people remember them.”
