Mill Tavern pub site in Cwmbran- An archaeological insight

A post I wrote yesterday about the Mill Tavern in Cwmbran contained an error. I assumed the closed pub was being flattened for the homes to be built. That decision has not yet been made. The application to build homes on land around the pub was approved.

Tonight I came across this fascinating blog post by Dave Standing that looks at the historical significance of this site and is much more interesting than my memories of the pub during this summer.

His twitter profile is @AncientTorfaen and his biog says “I am currently studying for a MA in Regional History. For my dissertation I am undertaking an archaeological landscape study of Llantarnam Abbey in south Wales.”
