GoPro video of the Cwmbran Bog & Bryn 13.7 mile race

The Bog & Bryn
The Bog & Bryn

The Bog & Bryn Challenge is a tough 13 mile multi-terrain scenic race, across the footpaths, open fields, country lanes and woodland of Llantarnam, Henllys, Rogerstone, Coed Eva and Hollybush. The route includes numerous stiles and stream crossings, very challenging terrain underfoot and a total elevation of approximately 500m (1640 ft).

That’s how the race is described by Fairwater Runners who organise the race. I was a spectator last year but this time around I took up the challenge and bought a pair of trail running trainers and entered.

Brilliant. Bonkers, Muddy. Wet. Fun. Thrilling. Beautiful.

A mate lent me his GoPro head camera. The race started with a lap around the field at Cwmbran Stadium and then we headed up to Two Locks and on to the canal towpath where I started recording. I discovered footpaths and views that were  stunning. The route takes you through streams and over countless stiles.

The marshals who volunteered were brilliant. Thanks to them I didn’t get lost and made it around in one piece.

Make sure you like the Facebook page for the race. When the race was run for the first time last year 116 people took part. This year 183 crossed the finish line. The race was won by Vaher Sander from Swansea Bay Orienteering Club in 1 hour 33 min 22 secs. Here are the full results.

Here is a longer version of the video. This one runs for 21 minutes so you get a better idea of the course 🙂 and if you took part you may event spot yourself.
