Videos and photos from the fun day at Cwmbran Park

The new play area Cwmbran Park funded by a £103,000 grant from the Big Lottery Fund opened last Saturday. Volunteers arrived at the field at 8.15am and it was a tough decision whether or not to postpone the day due to the wet weather.

But the show went on and it was the right decision. Apart from a five-minute downpour at 1.30pm the weather was bearable and didn’t deter around 600 to 700 people enjoying the day. There was excellent feedback from visitors and stall holders.

Here are some videos and photos from the day. I’ve been told the park has been busy every day since the opening with children enjoying the fresh air and half-term :-).

Thanks to all the volunteers involved in the Friends of Cwmbran Park who led this project with the support of Torfaen Council who own the land. There used to be a park on the site many years ago as shown by these photos in the Argus from 1974.

Rebecca Blount, in the photo below playing in the park, is now in the Friends of Cwmbran Park, and is thrilled to see children enjoying the park once again :-).

Where is Cwmbran Park?

It is on the fields next to the Bowling Green in Old Cwmbran. There is some parking off Wesley Street and pedestrian entrances from Belle Vue Road, just off Henllys Way. This is the Google Street View image…taken a few years ago 🙂
