The sun shone as shoppers came out to enjoy the first day on the beach in Cwmbran Shopping.

I popped down and did this video with Michael Bell, Cwmbran Shopping‘s events coordinator. It was great to see so many families messing about and having a laugh.

 

During the next couple of months there will be beach games as well as live music. Local retailers will have special offers and food and drink samples.

Weekly exercise classes will be held every Wednesday, ranging from Zumba and yoga to African-tribal dance.

Events will take place every Saturday, including a circus tricks workshop and a roaming pirate ship to entertain children.

From 28 July to 8 August, a European market will stand at Monmouth Square, with stalls offering homemade food, including sweets, Italian biscuits, olives, handmade crafts and souvenirs.

Torfaen Youth Service will be running family fun days, including a volleyball tournament on 1 August, a surfer-style arts and crafts day on 6 August and a competition on 8 August.

Paul Rich, Centre Manager at Cwmbran Shopping, said: “Our planned events, ranging from fitness classes to a food market, will keep children busy and will ensure people of all ages are able to make the most out of our urban beach.

“For those on a health kick, our exercise activities will boost any fitness plan. Foodies should visit our European market to sample local food from across the continent. Our free Wi-Fi means any office can work from the beach for a day.

“We aim for the beach to be a centre for everyone in the community to enjoy, offering both Cwmbran residents as well as visitors a place to relax and enjoy great customer experience.”
